Hello tumblrs and welcome to Creeper Feature’s Thursday Thrills. A weekly horror film recommendation with a synopsis, origin (if any), personal rating and much, much more!
For the first installment it’s a foreign favorite. A fantastic Japanese horror film, with enough mindfucks and surprises to get you dieing for more.
Uzumaki (2000)

In a small town in Japan, Kirie comes upon her boyfriend’s father silently videotaping a snail. He seems unaware of her presence and she thinks no more of it. Later, the mans obsession with spirals becomes more and more bizarre, ending in his suicide in a washing machine which turn his body into a spiral. Soon other inhabitants become possesed with different forms of spirals, one student seems to be mutating into a snail, another’s hair becomes strangely medusa-like. The entire town becomes possesed.
Based off the manga of the same title by Junji Ito. With a storyline comparable to Suicide Club and titillating gore that is just enough but not overbearing as Tokyo Gore Police. The manga (graphic novel) is free to read and can be found here.
It’s a shame the film excludes the maternity ward scene, which happens to be a personal favorite of mine. It’s a shame.
Uzumaki is available with English subtitles on DVD as well as it’s original Japanese. Netflix users, you’re in luck. It is also available for torrent download.
So what’s my personal rating for this movie? I give it a solid five sleestaks![]()
